The honest version first: the BLU Remote Control ZB and the Shelly Plus RGBW PM can be used together, but not the way the remote works with a Dimmer Gen3. The RGBW PM is a Plus device, and that changes a good deal of what you can expect. Better to know before buying than after.
What works and what does not
The remote broadcasts over Bluetooth and the RGBW PM, which has a BLE gateway, receives it without trouble. So far so good. What changes is how it can act on it:
- Works: the buttons, through scenes. You can switch on, switch off and fire colour moods.
- Does not work with the app: the brightness wheel, channel switching and automatic button mapping.
Why
The reason is specific. Default Command Mapping — the thing that assigned the wheel and the channels for you on the Dimmer Gen3 — is a feature of Gen3, Gen4 and Pro devices, and Shelly currently confirms it for relays, covers and dimmers.
Plus devices do not have it, and on colour controllers it is not available for now. The RGBW PM acts as the gateway and responds to the buttons through a scene, but the wheel and the channels are out if you are working from the app alone.
What you can do: one button, one mood
That is the pattern that works beautifully. Build one scene per button in the Shelly Smart Control app, with the remote’s button as the trigger and the RGBW PM doing whatever you like. For instance:
- Button 1: warm white at 100%.
- Button 2: film night, dim and amber.
- Button 3: party colour.
- Button 4: off.
The remote has no colour selector. On its own it sends on, off and more or less brightness. The colour is defined in each scene, not on the remote. Which is why the natural approach is to prepare several moods and give each one a button.
So is it worth it?
If what you want is four moods a button away, yes: quick to set up and the result is good. If what you were expecting was to dim with the wheel the way you would on a dimmer, no — and for that the right device is a Dimmer Gen3, not an RGBW PM.
